Coastal Retreat | Horton & Co

Our client had a passion for New England houses and, because the sea was nearby, requested some seaside influences. We were briefed to create a family space with a room for everyone, using local materials. The design process was very much a joint effort with the client, who had her own exquisite style. Horton undertook the implementation of the interior schemes and soft furnishings throughout the property. This included bathroom design, joinery and lighting plans. The shutters, cladding and meticulous detail on the joinery were the client’s favourite elements of the finished project. Lighting was a huge focus for the designers on this project: by day the light, airy rooms maximise the beautiful coastal views from every angle. By night the home transforms into a cosy, intimate haven with the landscapes artistically framed by perfectly positioned intelligent outdoor lighting.

    [content] => We were commissioned by a well-travelled client from England who loved colour and fun to refurbish a luxury safari lodge in Tanzania. We chose a ‘Mexico meets Morocco in the Bush’-theme for the space, with the client’s personality reflected in the interiors.

Part of the challenge was to specify furnishings that would withstand the perils of the African environment including exposure to extreme weather conditions and all manner of wildlife!

The bandas (bedrooms) were designed to blend the feeling of an English country house with the vibrancy of Africa; hence the authentic Zanzibar day beds in vivid colours sitting next to a traditional master bed with crisp white bedding, chintzy cushions and a romantic mosquito net.

Antiques from England were imported, including a billiard table, travel chests and family photographs creating the feeling of a 'home away from home'.

    [content] => Working closely with the architect, we developed the designs to refurbish this stunning grade II listed Vicarage.

Our brief was to create a classic, contemporary home for the discerning young clients and their children. At the same time, we had to consider the architectural integrity of this stunning, historic building.

We designed the internal finishes to complement the property’s character. We worked on floor finishes, door furniture, lighting plans, furniture layouts and bathroom designs, and supplied and installed all floor coverings, furniture, soft furnishings and accessories.

The client has three young children who really enjoyed participating in the design process. They were able to be creative and imaginative, fully supported by our expertise and guidance.
